Greg Jackson or “Jocko,” was born and raised in Brownsville. Eventually went to Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C. Jackson was drafted to the Knicks in 1974. Jackson played one season in the N.B.A. as a guard for the Knicks and the Phoenix Suns. After the N.B.A. he later played for the Allentown Jets in the Eastern Professional Basketball League.
After playing basketball professionally, Jackson returned to Brownsville becoming a community advocate. Jackson became the the longtime manager of the Brownsville Recreation Center on Linden Blvd. After a ten million dollar renovation, the facility now houses basketball and handball courts, a weight room, a swimming pool, and pool tables, among other features.
