Our speakers shared insightful visions and updates on our efforts to enhance public spaces in the community. Their presentations sparked engaging discussions and inspired new ideas for the upcoming year.
Calvin Brown, Deputy Commissioner for Neighborhood Development at SBS, emphasized the vital support and capacity building provided to New York City's 76 BIDs. He highlighted the administration's investment of over $27 million in commercial corridor revitalization and the impact of these efforts in strengthening local businesses and activating public spaces.
"SBS recognizes that commercial corridors and small businesses are the fabric of our neighborhoods, retaining cultural identity and contributing to the community's vibrancy. We are happy to support BIDs like Pitkin Avenue, especially given the exceptional work Tiera has done with limited resources. SBS will continue to be a partner, providing resources and support to the BID and small businesses." , Calvin Brown
Amelia, representing Resiliency’s Catalyst (RCC), highlighted their efforts in helping cities and communities address resilience challenges, including economic inequity, racism, and climate events. RCC’s Neighborhood Small Business Climate Resilience Program (NSBCRP) is an 8-city initiative focused on increasing small business resilience to climate events. Their work includes engaging with communities to identify pressing climate challenges and implementing quick-win projects like flood resilience retrofits and shaded seating areas. Specifically, for Pitkin Avenue, they are focusing on flood and heat resilience, combining long-term infrastructure projects with immediate, impactful solutions to support local businesses and community assets like Zion Triangle and the local library.
