Neighborhood Small Business Climate Resilience Program (NSBCRP)

In collaboration with Resilient Cities Catalyst (RCC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cities build resilience against various challenges, we are excited to introduce the Neighborhood Small Business Climate Resilience Program (NSBCRP).

The Neighborhood Small Business Climate Resilience Program (NSBCRP) strengthens municipal and business partnerships in communities to design and deliver projects that increase their resilience to climate change.

Goals of NSBCRP:

  1. Increase Capacity: Empower communities with the resources and knowledge to tackle climate challenges effectively.

  2. Accelerate Project Delivery: Fast-track the implementation of crucial resilience projects.

  3. Strengthen Resilience: Enhance the ability of small businesses and neighborhoods to withstand and adapt to climate change impacts.

Summary of Partnership Activities to Date

  • March 4: Launch of ongoing partnership with Pitkin Ave BID

  • March 6: Pitkin Avenue Urban Design Forum Meeting

  • March 21: Brownsville Public Visioning Session

  • Monthly: NST Meetings

  • April 19: Door-to-Door Engagement

  • May 28: In-person meeting with MOCEJ & SBS

  • June 12: In-person meeting with Pitkin Avenue BID

  • August 5: Interagency meeting

Potential Quick Wins | Pitkin Avenue BID & RCC Partnership

RCC and the BID are exploring a series of potential quick win projects that could be implemented in the near term while working towards the implementation of long-term projects. These elements will serve as precursors to and be tied to the long-term projects:

  • Small Business Small-Scale Climate Resilience Retrofits

  • Designing Tree Guards with Benches (in partnership with Studio Cooke John

  • Purchasing Tree Guards

  • Planning & Activation of Live Ends

Potential Long-Term Projects

NSBCRP will accelerate the design and delivery of multi-benefit projects, programs, and policies that build the climate resilience of commercial nodes. This includes:

  • Coordinating on Larger Infrastructure Projects: Improving corridor or neighborhood resilience to flooding, extreme heat, or other climate risks.

  • Retrofits and Preparedness Programs: Initiatives that provide climate change preparedness knowledge and resources to individual small businesses.
